Remodeling is Back!

Posted by:

NAHB’s quarterly remodeling index, rose to the highest level since 2006 for the January to March quarter.

A lot of evidence indicates the growth will be sustained.

During the Housing Bubble, there was a lot of remodeling at the top because many people were buying homes, and they naturally want to put their personal touches on those homes.

We also saw a lot of remodeling during the housing boom because so many borrowers took all that bloated equity out of their homes to ...

Bye-Bye Big Kitchens

Posted by:

It’s not just the size of the new American home that’s shrinking — down to 2,377 square feet last year from 2,438 square feet the year before. According to NAHB, the stuff that goes in it is shrinking, too.

It makes sense that a smaller home with a smaller kitchen is going to need smaller appliances.

“If you go down to a 18-inch range instead of one 24 inches, to a 33-inch refrigerator from a 36-inch one, and to an 18-inch dishwasher ...

Malcolm Gladwell’s Blink

Posted by:

The following review was originally published by the Florida Homebuilders Association website. {http://www.fhba.com/index.cfm?referer=content.contentItem&id=1537}

By Ann Hagen

Blink is about how we make choices, and the decisions we make without consciously thinking about them. Malcolm Gladwell wants to convince us that the decisions we make very quickly can be as good as the decisions we make cautiously and deliberately. He talks about the very smallest components of our everyday lives that play a major role in this. We need ...

Banks are Hiring Builders to Finish Their REO’s

Posted by:

More builders are being hired by banks and lenders to complete their real estate owned (REO) properties and get them ready to sell. This new market is a welcome source of business for builders who have managed to stay afloat over the last several years, but are struggling to find business.

Most banks are unaware of the need to provide a third-party express limited warranty to their buyers on foreclosed homes. By living in the implied warranty world, they ...

Rocklyn Homes Targets First-Time Buyers

Posted by:

rocklyn_cover_shot.jpg

First-time homebuyers constitute a builder’s hottest market. They don’t have a home to sell, they are not upside down on their mortgage, and they know this is a great time to buy.

Delivering homes to this market at attractive prices with attractive features is the mission of Atlanta’s Rocklyn Homes.

Building in three communities in Gwinnett, Forsyth and Barrow counties in the northeast corner of the Atlanta metro area, Rocklyn Homes offers ...

Arizona Builders Say ‘Buy New, Buy Now’

Posted by:

Smart builders know that their competition right now is not so much the builder down the street. It’s foreclosures and short sales.

Homes sitting empty (and more importantly what potential buyers think about vacant homes) put downward pressure on prices and decrease sales.

The HBA Central Arizona means to change all that with a regional advertising campaign sponsored by Bonded Builders Warranty Group, Arizona Power Service, The Rider Elite Team of realtors and Southwest Gas. The campaign is also supported ...
